The 2014 Chamber Innovation Award Winning Idea!
After hours networking events battle for members’ time. The Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce in Ontario, Canada knew they needed to freshen things up in order to keep their event on people’s ‘must-do’ list. To accomplish this, they knew it was key to find a way to bring new attendees in the door.
Read this final installment recapping last year’s Chamber Innovation Contest. Sponsored by ChamberMaster and Startup Local, chambers of commerce across North America were asked to enter their most innovative program idea, and in return be in the running for the $1000 grand prize.
Their Idea? “Peterborough Business Exchange (PBX)”
GROW WITH NEW FACES
The folks at the Greater Peterborough Chamber shook up the same old grind by inviting a different group of people to join them every month, thus creating an opportunity to network with new people. They invited groups such as the Downtown Merchants, other chambers, the Green Business Community, Aerospace Cluster, and more.
As for the results? By meeting in different locations with different groups, the Greater Peterborough Chamber has seen positive changes. “The implementation of PBX has caused our attendees to double in size since inception & we are very pleased with the outcome.” Stuart Harrison, President & CEO Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce.
Think outside the lines and imagine what you could do by being creative with your upcoming events. In the case of the Greater Peterborough Chamber, next year’s calendar is filling up fast due to some very specific targeting.
