Event Description
Chamber Plans Seminar for September 15: “Hiring Great Employees and Ways to Make Them Stay”
The Lake Houston Area Chamber's Seminar Committee will host “Hiring Great Employees and Ways to Make Them Stay” at 10 am on Wednesday, September 15 at the Chamber Office. The presenting sponsor for the seminar is The College of Biblical Studies.
The hour-long session will feature two speakers who will discuss recruitment and selection of quality employees and, once hired, how to engage and retain them.
Last year employers had to get very creative in order to find great employees. But now, according to Monster.com, the number of job seekers has more than doubled. Instead of having to search high and low to find the best candidates, employers are now being bombarded with tons of resumes. However, filling a position with the right person can be both frustrating and time consuming. The techniques shared in this workshop will not only help you streamline the process, but will make the difference between just hiring anyone to finding top-producing employees, instead.
Of course, after finding your “gem,” the next step is retaining them. Discover the top reasons employees leave and how to keep your talent from leaving even when the job market rebounds. Retention is often a challenge, even beyond a competitive salary and great benefits. In this portion of the workshop, you’ll learn simple ways to involve your employees, give recognition, and develop your best performers while advancing your business into greater profits.
Melissa Trocko, Director of Recruiting Services with Administaff, will discuss the components of a sound selection system beginning with key foundation elements that should be present in every selection model, employment brand and attraction message, the screening process and on-boarding.
Trocko has held a number of positions at Administaff during her 13-year tenure and is currently responsible for oversight of the corporate recruiting and selection programs. Prior to joining Administaff, she worked in the temporary placement industry. Trocko holds a PHR certification, a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Dallas and is a Certified Facilitator for Developmental Dimensions International Targeted Selection Program.
Barbara Griffin, Manager of Corporate Learning and Development with Administaff, will speak to the attendees on employee engagement and retention. At Administaff, Griffin is responsible for developing and delivering training programs for corporate employees. Since joining Administaff in 1993 she’s held a number of positions including HR Assistant, Recruiting and Outplacement Specialist, HR Specialist, Corporate Recruiting Manager, Technology Client Liaison and Performance Consultant.
Prior to Administaff, Griffin worked in the temporary placement industry. She holds a PHR certification, a certificate in Training from the University of Houston and is a Certified Facilitator for Developmental Dimensions International programs.
This seminar is free for Chamber members to attend or $10 for guests. RSVP for this seminar by Tuesday, September 14 at 12 pm online at
